"Caminantes por la vida", a favor de la salud femenina ("Caminantes por la vida", in favor of femenine health)March 8, 2006, Listín Diario.On Sunday, March 26, dozens of people will lead the way on the walk. For that day, the company MercaSID and its product Crisol prepared for the first time "Caminantes por la vida", an activity that aspires to create awareness for the prevention of breast cancer and uterine cancer, while at the same time raise funds for three specialized institutions in the treatment and prevention of these diseases. The walk, dedicated to International Woman's Day, will be held in the Botanical Gardens, beginning at 10 in the morning. The walk will be 5 kilometers within the gardens, fields and thematic areas. According to Jose Llano, MercaSID's marketing manager, "Caminantes por la vida" seeks to become an activity with which women will feel identified and motivated, because it deals with problems that affect them directly and indirectly. "It is a way to together search for a way to minimize them, and create awareness of how important it is today to donate one's footsteps in favor of one's wellbeing and health", he expresses. How can one participate and contribute with the cause? To make a donation to the cause all you have to do is sign up and acquire the promotional materials. The inscription for the walk is 100 pesos; kids under ten, participate for free. The inscription centers will include supermarkets, malls, gyms, Mirador del Sur Park, Botanical Gardens and at MercaSID. Other donations are possible, also at the inscription centers, with the purchase of t-shirts, for 100 pesos; caps, for 50, and wristbands, for 30. The inscription combo including the t-shirt and wristband costs 200 pesos. The beneficiary institutions for "Caminantes por la vida" include Liga Dominicana Contra el Cáncer (The Dominican League Against Cancer), la Asociación de Voluntarias del Oncológico Dr. Heriberto Pieter (the Association of Volunteers of the Dr. Heriberto Peter Oncology Hospital and Fundación Saint Joseph's (Saint Joseph's Foundation). Llano adds that you do not have to be a woman to join in: "We all have a mother, a sister, a friend, a daughter, a woman who whom to walk…". |
